In August I took a trip to Oslo, Norway. For some reason not clear to myself I delayed posting the pictures I've taken on the way until now. Yes, I'm slow. But here they are, carefully selected; click on them to see small details if you like:

1) The church. Obviously.

2) University.

3) Two bike drivers, near the university.

4) A weird ball resembling a hedgehog. Also, a nice fountain in the background.

5)

6) Royal palace, if I remember correctly.

7) Some nice figures in a park nearby. There were some less nice, but I didn't photograph those.

8)

9) A bit less figure-infested part of the park.

10)

11) I have no idea why there are two red lights.

12) This statue looks a bit tired, I think.

13) Nice decoration, or vandalism? Sometimes it's hard to tell.

14) On a kids' playground.

15) Frogner park entrance.

16) Oh, look! A seagull!

17)

18) Zodiac. Maybe it's functional, as a sundial? Hard to tell in this weather.

19)

20) You might notice there are some statues on that bridge in a distance. However, they are really ugly.

21) That's as close as I could get.

22) Another kids' playground — not just for kids, apparently.

23) Not easy to see, but there is a very nice looking sparrow in the middle.

24)

25)

26) Reminds me of Kotka a little bit.

27)

28)

29) Some locals

30)

31)

32)

33) That sign seems not to be in a hurry

34)

35)

36) I though bears on the streets are Russia's thing.

37) Who's a nice bear?

38)

39)

40)

41)

42) More locals

43) That's a statue, not a man in a weird suit. Probably.

44)

45) Different countries favor different US presidents. It's a matter of taste.

46) Akershus fortress.

47) Piece of modern art. It's called "Aurora".

48)

49)

50)

51) That's the citadel inside the fortress.

52) I don't think that's the same sparrow. But it may be.

53) I've made a panoramic picture inside the citadel.

54)

55) On the elevated part of the fortress.

56) I don't know why is there a handle on a cannon, but it's a fancy one.

57)

58)

59) On my way back to the hotel

60)

61)

62) They look very serious.

63) Evening in the hotel.

64) I've took a different turn the next day.

65) One of those poles doesn't have a seagull assigned to it. Did it quit recently?

66)

67)

68) Opera house

69)

70)

71)

72) I didn't notice it at the time, but there is a (mostly) glass figure resembling a ship in the water.

73)

74) An interesting-looking bridge from afar

75) ...and up close. I did not walk on it, I was heading to a different direction.

76) Another bridge I didn't walk on.

77)

78) A lonely swan

79)

80) Not so lonely now.

81) Seems like this other direction I was taking led me to some less fancy areas of Oslo. Note the balconies here.

82) On the left it looks like they are building a replica of a Viking ship. On the right I have no idea what it is.

83)

84) The sign says this tunnel is nearly half a kilometer long.

85) I climbed up... and up... and up... and ended in a nice suburb.

86) This sign is different. Seems more business-like.

87) A tractor is moving those gates around.

88) There is a stop for motorhomes nearby.

89)

90) And some tourist attraction near that stop.

91)

92) Another piece of modern art.

93) They are moving. Quite fast, actually.

94) Going back down.

95)

96) It's hard to tell from a photo, but this statue has a tail.

97)

98) Archeological excavation?

99)

100) Local fisherman

101) Yet another playground

102)

103) I really prefer my cities flat.

104)

105) Nice fountain. Water floats down on that stone wall under the vegetation.

106)

107) Looks like that mom agrees that flat surfaces are better.

108)

109) Do you know the email of a Hungarian owl? It's hu@hu.hu

110)

111) I just liked the look of that house.

112) In a park, somewhere.

113) Oh, hello! Mind if I sit here?

114) Be my guest!

115) ...but my buddies over there might not like that.

116) Oslo doesn't have a lot of water within the city borders, but there is some.

117) Last thing I'd expect from a hand bursting from the ground is a rose.

118) Looks like it's going to rain.

119) Kitty!

120) Kitty refuses to pose for the camera.

121) Norwegian parliament.

122) Another day, another journey. This time by sea.

123) It's a bit rainy.

124)

125) Same opera house, same glass ship.

126) A building with a hole.

127) A stage. Surrounded by water. Some concert they were doing here.

128)

129)

130)

131) IIRC, this is a lighthouse.

132)

133) It's actually quite crowded there.

134)

135)

136) I think it's a speed limit for boats. 5 knots max.

137) A jellyfish. There were actually a lot of them but they aren't easy to photograph.

138) Going back

139)

140)

141) Even now I feel like this smoke flies directly into my nose.

142)

143) Almost back. Those two white domes are a kind of water taxi.

144) A crewmember jumps on a pier first.

After that I went to the Fram museum — you know, the ship that Nansen used to reach the North Pole. While being there I've learned Nansen routinely killed his own dogs as his supplies grew lighter. Some people are just evil, I suppose. Therefore, no pictures.

145) That's a small World War II museum. Not very interesting.

146)

147) A ferry leaving

148)

149) Another museum — this time, the one intended to prove that, yes, Norway does have military.

150) No idea what kind of weapon it is.

151) A cannon/sled hybrid.

152) A mine.

153) A galley on my flight back. Oh, sorry, no, it's still from that museum.

154) Bombs

155) Don't remember what it's about.

156) The most useful information table.

157) Some kind of infantry fighting vehicle?

158) OK, going back to the hotel.

159) Not a hotel, actually — that's in the Oslo airport.

PS. I didn't like Oslo as much as Stockholm last year. Fine city, I guess, just not my type.
